Just like Pilates and Yoga, Personal Training at Physical Therapyworks is all about knowing what is right for the client, wrong for the client, and what areas require caution. By doing our personal training on a “one-on-one” basis and doing so in an intimate environment, you’ll gradually come to understand what to do and how to do it independently. Of course you might find that the quality of instruction and the benefits of Personal Training at Physical Therapyworks are so great that you’ll decide to just keep coming!
We focus on “closed chain” and “functional training” forms of exercise. These methods utilize your body weight and its interaction with the surrounding environment to improve strength, power, stability, flexibility, coordination, and balance. Research shows that this type of training is most effective at improving functional strength, balance, range of motion, coordination and endurance, whereas working on machines for the most part has been shown to improve your ability to use the machine and does not carry over as well to functional activities. It’s also safer for a number of reasons, including the fact that it matches the bodies’ natural 3-dimensional planes of motion, rather than the one or two-dimensional planes of exercise machines. So if your goal is to use a machine well, then you should work out on that machine. If it is to feel better, move better and have optimal performance in your general environment, our form of personal training is a much better choice.
