acupuncture

We offer Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) as an adjunct therapy to our “wellness” team and to physical therapy.  Many of our practitioners here at Physical Therapyworks have used acupuncture and are amazed by the dramatic results.  Ideally, our bodies want to feel good and acupuncture treatments assist us in doing just this.

When the Qi (pronounced “chee” - our “vital life force” or “energy”) in the body is disrupted due to trauma, stress, pathogens, nutritional deficiencies or other factors, pain and illness can result.

By inserting very fine needles into our meridians (those pathways through the body where the Qi flows) the Qi’s movement is affected, placing it back on the path of restoration, and thereby stimulating the healing process.

Traditional Chinese Medicine has been used for thousands of years to treat pain and illness. Embracing a holistic approach, TCM treats the whole person rather than separating the disease from a person.  The patient, therefore, maintains optimum health while illnesses are suppressed and/or prevented.

If you belong to the few for whom needles present an immediate reaction of concern, you really needn’t fear, these needles are fine and flexible and no bigger than a human hair or piece of thread.  When inserted, some patients can experience a slight tingling sensation but most are usually amazed at how comfortable they are during treatment.

After treatment, acupuncture patients most often feel a sense of well being, a sense of feeling grounded in addition to the relief of their pain and/or illness.

Speaking of pain, is this all that is treated?  Absolutely not.  The list of ailments treated by acupuncture (and TCM generally) really is endless, including:

  •   Pain - chronic and acute
  •   Arthritis & Arthritic Pain
  •   Allergies & Sinusitis
  •   Headaches & Migraines
  •   Mental Disorders - depression, anxiety, panic attacks, etc
  •   Fatigue & Insomnia
  •   Digestive Disorders - bloating, gas, diarrhea, constipation, IBS, etc
  •   Women’s Health - infertility, PMS, amenorrhea, painful menstruation
  •   STRESS!

We provide acupuncture in a safe and cozy setting.  You will have the opportunity to focus on the main reason you are coming in, but to also treat the whole body at the same time.  You will also have the opportunity to discuss diet and Qi Gong exercises that you can take home with you in order to ensure optimal care. That is the beauty of TCM - it can treat a number of things at once.
